A penny for my thoughts

My Vanity Fair Essay This past spring (2007), Vanity Fair ran an essay contest, the subject of which was “What is reality to Americans today, and did we ever have a grasp of it?” My brain nearly exploded in writing this, made all the more painful by the fact that I...well...lost. But hey—now I’ve got a new essay for my site!

It’s all in my head — I recently had extensive oral surgery and the IV sedation made me later want to eat pennies. My poor sister was in charge and said  that taking me home was “a two-person job,” as my behavior had descended into that of a three-year-old. Here’s the full report...

My Aunt Kattie — My late Aunt Kattie spray-painted everything gold, then glued ball-fringe to it. I miss her.

My Brush With Greatness —  For about 10 minutes, I felt like I was living a Law & Order episode, and I wrote my sister this email about it.

My Favorite Reads — These days, I seem to be fascinated with the metaphysical, the transcendental, the spiritual. But don’t worry—I hate wheatgrass juice and still drink plenty of coffee. These books are the real deal.

My Mike Cleary Obit — Anyone who knew Mike Cleary knew two things: he loved musicians, and he could talk your ear off about anything. I miss him, too.
